Stomach Exercises Myths

As in every area in life, the World of stomach exercises is plagued with myths that not only bring useless information, but that also in some cases can bring us health problems. This section was made to help you separate myths from fact and start your journey to fitness with the right foot.  Let’s take a look at them.

Myth 1: The Never ending Repetitions

I’m sure we’ve all heard before the exercise maniac who does repetition after repetition at lightning-speed with total obsession.  Well doing more repetitions will not make us thinner overnight.  Instead we should strive to do perfectly executed repetitions to squeeze the most out of our effort.

Repetitions must be divided in sets, so you allow your stomach muscles to recover from the work involved.

Myth 2: Spot Toning

With the amount of info about this myth I hope not many people fall for it.  To put it simply: you can’t lose weight in just one part of your body.  If that were true, all obese people who are always on the computer would have skinny fingers!  We need to work on losing the excess fat in all our body.  As we lose fat in ALL our body, we’ll see that we’ll also lose fat in the parts where we use to store it.

Myth 3: Crunches for Six Packs

Lots of people believe that in order to develop nice six pack they need to do only crunches and other exercises.  The truth is that to sport the pack you need to: lower down your body fat percentage.  This number is of 10% or less.

Even if you don’t do abs exercises everyday, if you lower your body fat percentage to these levels, you’ll start seeing the muscles that remained hidden under the layer of fat.

Myth 4: Losing fat only with exercise

I used to believe in this myth. I seriously did.  I worked out all days and ate like the same unhealthy food each day thinking that I was going to lose weight, until I realized I wasn’t making any real progress.  If you are serious about losing weight, you need to realize that your diet is even more important that your exercises.  Eating healthy food will get you slimmer and will bring you massive energy into your life.

Myth 5: Strength Training will make you look "bulky"

Not at all.  In fact, EVERYONE should integrate strength training.  And I don’t mean training to be a bodybuilder.  Having strong muscles will keep our body slim as we’ll need more calories to maintain it.  This is a secret that not many people know and that I’ve learned thanks to Mike’s book.

Now that you know the myths, avoid them! And also help people who are in the same struggle as you.  Once you get rid of them, you’ll start gaining a whole new perspective and much better results.
